      Bedford County Public Schools are closed for students on Monday, February 5, 2024, so the National D-Day Memorial is hosting one-day mini-camps for third, fourth, and fifth graders on that day! Students will learn about World War II and D-Day through activities, games, and lessons. Participants should bring lunch. A morning snack will be provided. Event may be canceled in the event of inclement weather, if minimum registration not met, or if February 5 is used as BCPS make-up day. In event of cancelation, fees will be refunded.

As twilight deepens and obscures the Blue Ridge Mountains, the National D-Day Memorial will once again honor the 4,415 men killed on D-Day during our annual Flames of Memory event. Arranged throughout the Memorial’s grounds, thousands of luminarias will shine in recognition of Overlord’s fallen and in tribute to the ultimate sacrifice each made to relight the lamp of freedom. Free admission. Donations welcome. Thank you to our sponsors.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day 2023

National D-Day Memorial 3 Overlord Circle, Bedford, VA, United States

Join us as we recognize prisoners of war and America's sons and daughters who remain missing with our annual wreath laying at the Memorial's POW/MIA flag, located on the east lawn (behind the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument). At 11AM, Bedford County Public Schools JROTC cadets will present the colors, lay a wreath, and play taps. Regular admission fees apply for the in-person event. The remembrance event will be recorded and streamed at 11:30AM along with pre-recorded stories of a former prisoner of war and a missing soldier from World War II. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMSYKGldYiI
