In the spring and summer of 1944, the U.S. Coast Guard was stretched to its limits, supporting multiple aspects of D-Day operations. Little remembered today, the Coast Guard manned U.S. Navy transport ships, provided rescue services for the entire Normandy area, and operated different types of landing craft for U.S. forces. National POW/MIA Recognition Day 2023

National D-Day Memorial 3 Overlord Circle, Bedford, VA, United States

Join us as we recognize prisoners of war and America's sons and daughters who remain missing with our annual wreath laying at the Memorial's POW/MIA flag, located on the east lawn (behind the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument). At 11AM, Bedford County Public Schools JROTC cadets will present the colors, lay a wreath, and play taps. Regular admission fees apply for the in-person event.
